"We are facing a "Dietrich Bonhoeffer Moment." You recall that he chose civil disobedience and disobeyed Nazi law that stated that protecting Jewish people was against the law. He was hung for his stand. He also said prior to his death, "Silence in the face of evil is evil itself. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act."
Biblical Christianity shows us times when man-made laws contrary to divine laws are disobeyed. Moses was hidden for three months; Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego didn't bow to the idol; Daniel continued praying when it was illegal; Esther was willing to risk her life to approach the king; Peter and John would not refrain from preaching the gospel.
The Bible tells us, "The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber" (Rom. 13:11). A jolt in the night is right around the corner! Brace yourself and prepare to face new challenges requiring risk-taking as the new normal in an increasingly secular society." Larry Tomczak
Whether one agrees or disagrees, definitely food for thought.
I'd have a problem with any Christian who disagreed. Acts 5:29
ReplyDeleteAgree: “We must obey God rather than men.
DeleteYET, far too many refuse to obey God. Both governors of ARK. and IN. had an opportunity to obey God, but bent to the evils of this world. Some will agree, MANY MORE will take the wide, easy, heavily traveled road.
Doubtless you are unaware of the man you quote here, so just the highlights from rapidnet.com
ReplyDeleteDB is credited with fathering the "God is dead" movement
Did not believe Jesus was born of a virgin
Did not believe in the Deity of Christ
Denied Christ's sinless nature and earthly life
A pantheist
Christ not the only way to God
Highly ecumenical, especially the rcc
Evolutionist
Regeneration through baptism (infant and adult)
Denied inspiration of the Scriptures
Denied bodily resurrection of Christ
Therefore, this man has nothing to say on any subject that I care to hear.
DB is mentioned only as it pertains to our choice to follow God, obeying Him rather than man. And in this I wholeheartedly agree. There will come a day when we must choose, as it did for the governors of both Arkansas and Indiania, both of whom chose to bow to the will of man instead of obeying God.
