Is it not written, fear not? Yet…

A new survey by the Gallup organization finds that our worries about terrorism and race relations have increased dramatically over the last year.

The percentage of Americans who worry “a great deal” about a terrorist attack climbed 12 points from 2014, to 51 percent right now. Concerns about race relations are up 11 points to 28 percent. Fear over illegal immigration also jumped by six percent. Overall, solid majorities worry most about getting and affording healthcare and about the state of the economy, in addition to fears about terrorism.

It appears Americans, Christians included, have chosen to tremble in fear rather than stand in faith. It is obvious we as a nation know not our God. We have chosen to carry the circumstances rather than the cross.

In 1 Samuel 26 we read of David, strong in his faith, walking in the midst of his enemies, trusting God. In 1 Samuel 27 David is weak in faith and fearful, making his own decisions - fearing the future. In 1 Samuel 26 we see faith: “the LORD shall.…” In 1 Samuel 27:1 we see ~ fear: “I/me…..” but no mention of the LORD.

What happened to move David from a man of faith into the hands of the enemies of God? What happens to move us from faith to fear, from walking in victory to walking into the camp of the enemy?

“Do not fear any of those things which you are about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.” Revelation 2:10

Gird up your loins and FEAR NOT.!!!.

  1. well said ali...amen! Fear of man is spoken against in His word. The Lord instructs His disciples in Matthew's Gospel -
Mat 10:23-31 "But when they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another: for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone over the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come. The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord. It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of his household? Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known. What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops. And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows."

The Lord also gives a stern warning in John's Gospel -

John 12:25 He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.

Those who fear the things/people of this world prove their ignorance of God's truth. This world will get worse, wickedness will increase. We are commanded to be watchful, and to pray. There isn't time to wring our hands or be distressed - Christ is coming! Let us do as we've been instructed by our Lord and Savior.
