“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own
doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:8-10

Few things offend the liberal church establishment more than an uncompromising faith in Jesus Christ as the only way to God.

Truth is we can never pay for our sins by good deeds. If one is ever to be saved from his sins and to obtain salvation, it must be received solely by faith in the work of the Lord Jesus Christ. “For the wages of sin is death,” but “while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” so that “the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many” and—in the words of our text above—“whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

There is no other way.!!.

  1. Grace is cheapened and left out of the equation in the liberal 'gospel'. Salvation is a result of the triune God, and not of man's free will or decision to accept or reject Christ. The doctrines of grace have been tossed aside for an easier 'gospel' that says man can simply make a profession and be saved. However, the demons profess there is a God, so verbal professions obviously aren't enough. There must be a confession of the mouth as well as a belief in the 'heart'. This is where the ministry of the Holy Spirit comes in, no one can trust in/believe in Christ and His finished work unless it has been wrought in them from on high. The new birth must take place, the heart must see its sins in light of offending a holy God and an eternity separated from Him. There must be a brokenness over sin, a Godly sorrow. This is what causes the sinner to cry out as the tax collector, 'God be merciful to me, a sinner!'. True saving faith runs deeper than a mere verbal profession, it involves the whole 'inner man'!

The gospel that is presented by most today is powerless to save, for it is an accursed gospel. It produces false converts who live like devils but believe themselves to be saved based on their 'profession'. Is it any wonder our Lord said to the 'religious professor' "Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity." Matthew 7:21-23

  2. Indeed, Jesus plus anything is not grace, nor unmerited favor. Millions attempt to earn, work for, their salvation when it is a gift from our very loving God.
