In an interview with atheist Italian journalist Eugenio Scalfari, Pope Francis said:

“Each of us has a vision of good and of evil. We have to encourage people to move towards what they think is good . . . Everyone has his own idea of good and evil and must choose to follow the good and fight evil as he conceives them. That would be enough to make the world a better place.

Church leaders “have often been narcissists” and “clericalism should not have anything to do with Christianity”

"The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness."  2 Thessalonians 2: 9-12

  1. "The heart is more deceitful than all else And is desperately sick; Who can understand it?" Jeremiah 17:9
So we are supposed to trust our own hearts, which are 'deceitful and desperately wicked', to discern what is good and evil and then, under our own power, follow the 'good'? What does he do with the pedophile, who thinks it's 'good' to have sex with a child? What does he do with a homosexual, who thinks it's 'good' to have same sex sex? This is exactly why human 'reasoning' cannot be the guide for stating what is right and wrong. The only source of truth is God's word.

"Let them alone; they are blind guides of the blind." - Matthew 15:14

  4. I think most Catholics think of themselves as Christian, but almost every catholic I've known - or read about - who became a Christian later says they were NOT Christians previously, only good Catholics.
